My Story: A Convergence of Distant, Yet Familiar Cultures

My Story: A Convergence of Distant, Yet Familiar Cultures

After over fifteen years in retail, spanning three continents, I felt the urge to slow down and reevaluate my priorities. I craved more flexibility to spend quality time with my children and family. While I wasn't afraid of work, I sought a way to balance my professional and personal life.

During three years of introducing French brands to Japanese department store buyers on behalf of a French institution, my perspective on products shifted dramatically. I began to view products through the discerning eyes of Japanese consumers, who seek perfection, craftsmanship, and authenticity. Japanese customers are true connoisseurs, noticing details that often go unnoticed.

In my quest for a fulfilling and flexible career, I rediscovered Wayuu weaving, a tradition that had been part of my childhood. I looked at this technique with fresh eyes, appreciating the quality of the materials, the delicacy of the finishes, and the rich history it embodies. This ancestral craftsmanship aligned perfectly with the expectations of my Japanese clientele.

And so, AALUNA was born, a tribute to my heritage and an expression of my love for beautiful things. We have captivated Japanese customers, earning their trust and appreciation. I am eternally grateful to all the women in the Land of the Rising Sun who were the first to carry the bags crafted by Wayuu women, from the other side of the world.
